Ficolo’s data center is located in Ulvila, Finland in an underground tunnel network covering 8,500 square meters, originally quarried for the Finnish Defence Forces. Ulvia is located about 200km north-west of Helsinki. Thanks to the location in Ulvila, the Ficolo data center is more affordable than other data centers in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The location of the FiCoLo Data Center will allow us to provide affordable and reliable web hosting in Finland - perfect location for your Russia / Baltic / EU oriented web sites.
The Ficolo data center offers great colocation services and is flexible enough to accomodate our very specific requirements. This allowed our administrators to achieve a good balance between our own in-house management and outsourcing while implementing our own and custom built cloud hosting platform in our colocated server space there.
The Ficolo data center is situated in a naturally cool network of underground tunnels, which greatly reduces the amount of energy required for cooling the hot servers and improves the overall energy efficiency. All of the electricity used by the data center facility is 100% generated by wind power, which contributed to the high rating it was given by Greenpeace in their annual energy consumption report from 2013.
The Ficolo data center has direct connections to all of the major fiber optic network carriers like TeliaSonera, Elisa and DNA. It is also a member of RIPE NIC – the Regional Internet Registry for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia, and uses IP transit services from all key Finnish carriers. The Internet connections within the country are routed directly to the end customer through the operator’s network. For international users, the traffic is routed optimally through international Internet gateways. And it is super fast!
